Viac o knihe

In July 1997, the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) established its collaborative research centre SFB 438, focusing on "Mathematical Modelling, Simulation, and Verification in Material-Oriented Processes and Intelligent Systems" at the Technische Universität München and the Universität Augsburg. This initiative marked the emergence of a second hub for scientific computing in southern Bavaria, complementing the existing FORTWIHR consortium, which primarily emphasized supercomputing. The new centre was expected to concentrate on mathematical aspects across five main research topics: (A) adaptive materials and thin layers, (B) adaptive materials in medicine, (C) robotics, aeronautics, and automobile technology, (D) microstructured devices and systems, and (E) transport processes in flows. The establishment of SFB 438 and its scientific agenda were closely associated with Karl-Heinz Hoffmann, a full professor of applied mathematics who played a pivotal role in uniting experts from mathematics, physics, engineering, informatics, and medicine for collaborative efforts in applied mathematics. However, shortly after the initiative commenced, Hoffmann was called to take on a larger leadership role elsewhere.
