Focusing on urban fear, this book explores the paradox of heightened anxiety over crime in Western cities despite their relative safety. It critically examines the interplay between fear, space, and urban planning, particularly in Palermo and Lisbon, while challenging existing urban geopolitics through the lens of ordinary cities. The analysis delves into how fear is generated by misleading security narratives and the political construction of otherness. It also discusses the implications of urban planning on the spatialization of fear and concludes with a call for action towards understanding 'fearscapes' in urban political economy.
