Focusing on Nyanja, a major Zambian language spoken by approximately 0.75 million people, this volume contributes to a series aimed at enhancing the scholarship and resources available for Zambian languages. Following a governmental shift in 1996 to prioritize local languages in education, this work offers a detailed grammatical sketch, covering sound systems, morphology, and sentence structure. Nyanja serves as a second language for many and functions as the lingua franca in various contexts, including the military and media, extending its influence into neighboring Mozambique and Malawi.
