Focusing on the postcolonial city, the book examines how urban environments shape new identities in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It analyzes historical and contemporary urban debates through postcolonial literature, specifically in London, Nairobi, and Bombay. Varma employs three theoretical frameworks: the role of postcolonial theory in defining public spheres and identities, the emergence of postcolonial fiction as a global literary space, and the concept of postcolonial feminist citizenship as a response to contemporary political challenges.
