Exploring the concept of unity as essential to the church's existence, this book examines how ecclesial structures, while intended to foster unity, can sometimes lead to disunity. By analyzing specific structures like patriarchates, canonical territory, and autocephaly within the Eastern Christian context, it highlights their evolution and the tensions they create in Orthodox churches. The author argues that these structures, likened to scaffolding, are not inherent to the church's nature and can inadvertently undermine its unity, making this a critical topic for contemporary ecclesiastical life.
