The emergency physician must be adept at handling acute cardiac emergencies, since most patients with these serious conditions will be rushed to an emergency department rather than to a cardiologist. The emergency physician needs more than the cut and dried organization of books for the cardiologist. This book discusses what must be done in the emergency department setting, where emergency personnel handling the cardiac patient during the all-important first hour are not familiar with the patient's history. It is the emergency physician's job to keep the patient alive as the condition is diagnosed, and to instititute initial management procedures.
