Lost Book of Bonn, The

Viac o knihe

In 1946 Germany, Emmy Clarke, a librarian, is sent by the Library of Congress to assist the Monuments Men in retrieving and cataloging literature looted by the Nazis. While the focus is often on returning art, Emmy finds profound significance in the books, especially when she discovers a poetry collection by Rainer Maria Rilke, inscribed with a dedication to “Annelise, my brave Edelweiss Pirate.” Intrigued, she embarks on a quest to uncover the story behind the dedication, leading her to two sisters, a harrowing betrayal, and a remarkable protest against the Nazis that took place in Berlin during the war. Nearly a decade earlier, hundreds of courageous women had gathered in the streets to confront the Gestapo after their Jewish husbands were detained, risking their lives in defiance of the Third Reich. As Emmy navigates this historical landscape, she confronts her own past and questions whether she is merely pursuing ghosts. Ultimately, she uncovers a powerful narrative of love, forgiveness, and bravery that illuminates the darkest days of postwar life.
