"Set in contemporary Dublin, in a Victorian square where the lavender grows in mysterious abundance, the story is about a poor African-Irish boy, Patrick Kimba, whose middle-class Irish neighbours are obliged to take care of him when his mother becomes ill. Initially put out, they rally begrudgingly until, quite-by-accident, the young boy changes their worlds. Patrick is no ordinary seven-year old. He speaks French fluently (his mother is from the Democratic Republic of Congo) and he seems wise beyond his years.
