In 2015, the Polish Institute of World Art Studies, alongside the National Museums in Kraków and Warsaw and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, initiated a comprehensive research project on Henryk Siemiradzki, a notable Polish painter linked to Russian and Italian artistic circles. Funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, this five-year endeavor culminated in the publication of a two-volume Catalogue Raisonné of Siemiradzki's paintings, sketches, and studies. The project aimed to document all surviving works and those verified through various means, including drawings, photographs, and technical analysis. The compilers created a detailed bibliography, exhibition history, and sources, while also interpreting Siemiradzki's art within the context of his creative output and the artistic currents of his time. The Catalogue is organized thematically, covering historical scenes, religious representations, genre compositions, portraits, and landscapes, supplemented by a chronological overview. Additional volumes include an appendix with archival sources and studies on Siemiradzki's work, as well as a volume dedicated to his painting techniques and materials. The project has significantly advanced research on Siemiradzki and the broader landscape of 19th-century Polish and European art.
