Donald Duck in the Wake of the Vikings

Viac o knihe

In 835, a Norwegian Viking ship was built that is so famous that there is a copy of it in the museum in Andeby, where Donald is the museum guard. The ship is the Oseberg ship, which was found in a burial mound in 1903, and now stands at the Viking Ship House on Bygdøy in Oslo. It is this ship that makes Donald dream about "such harsh fun as the Vikings had, who fought against whales and sailed across the sea in an open boat!" This dream takes Donald in the footsteps of the Vikings, in the classic "Donald Duck and the Golden Helmet". In another story, it is in Anton's footsteps that Donald goes, but then he and his nephews find a completely intact Viking ship, in the story "Donald Duck in Greenland". These two stories - both written and drawn by Carl Barks - can be found in this magnificent book which is about the Oseberg ship and the exciting story of the Vikings and their ship. The academic part is written by archaeologist Knut Paasche, who has researched the Oseberg ship's design and seaworthiness. The book has been created in collaboration with the Cultural History Museum, and is richly illustrated with unique images from the discovery of the ship and the treasures that were found in the burial mound. The two comics are commented on with regard to what are facts and imagination in the stories. English edition.
