This pioneering work analyses the key ideas (political, methodological and psychological) involved in deep ecology. The author discusses the deep ecological world-view within the wider context of environmentalism, ecophilosophy and anthropocentrism. He also looks at the influence of deep ecology, its meanings and shortcomings and draws out the distinctive elements of its contribution to ecophilosophy.
