The understanding and proper use of idioms and colloquialisms is difficult for students of English as a foreign language to understand, for they contain some of the most difficult forms of speech - idioms, phrasal verbs, compound nouns and adjectives, and they often occur in groups. Nowadays, the use of colloquialisms is prevalent in most spheres of human activity, and a knowledge of them is indispensable when dealing with an English-speaking public on a professional or cultural level.
