For two years at the beginning of the Second World War, Captain Louis Mountbatten commanded the destroyer HMS Kelly, surviving a torpedo attack in the North Sea but finally being sunk during the Battle of Crete. That day when he lost over half his crew with his ship was the saddest of his Naval career and after the war, right up until the time he was murdered, he kept in close touch with his surviving officers and crew, who formed the Kelly Reunion Association.
