Glasgow is not an easy city to define. From roots in the Middle Ages, it evolved into what many consider the finest Victorian city in Britain. Its industry became a byword: Clydebuilt ships carried its reputation worldwide. Half a century of industrial decline debased that reputation to one of violence and decay, denying the true city, its long history, diverse life and special character.
