This volume collects about 100 autograph manuscripts personally written by some of the major figures in French literary history from the 13th to the 20th centuries such as Baudelaire, Flaubert, Sartre, de Maupassant, as well as others equally brilliant but lesser known. Roselyne de Ayala and Jean-Pierre Gueno provide manuscripts drawn from classic works, personal journals, letters and memoirs, each accompanied by a translation of the work shown, a portrait (when available) of the author, and a brief literary and biographical sketch.
