The increasing reliance on quality software in various aspects of life underscores the significance of software engineering as a vital discipline today. Over recent decades, demonstrating the value of software engineering methods in real-world settings has gained importance, leading to the emergence of empirical software engineering. A prominent figure in this field is Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Dieter Rombach, who has devoted his career to advancing empirical software engineering. His numerous accolades include the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award and the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and he is a Fellow of both the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society. This book, published in celebration of his 60th birthday, honors Rombach's contributions to software engineering, particularly in empirical methods. It features invited contributions from esteemed researchers like Victor Basili, Barry Boehm, and Michael Jackson, alongside insights from experts at the Fraunhofer IESE, the institute Rombach founded.
