The new version, re-titled for a new century, retains the features that made the original appealing, presenting geography as an integrated discipline linking environmental and human geography. It emphasizes geographic distributions, research techniques, and the philosophical underpinnings of analysis as part of a global synthesis, operating across various spatial scales from local to planetary and spanning from human origins to future scenarios. Key features include a thorough revision to reflect changes in world geography, illustrated with over 500 figures and new plates. It maintains a five-fold structure covering major geographic fields, with added sections on themes like Globalization, World Health Geography, and GIS. While aimed at students with little prior training, it also offers pathways to advanced study. Each of the 24 chapters includes boxes introducing new methods, highlighting contributions from notable geographers, providing regional case studies, and detailing historical phases in geography's development. New appendices feature a glossary of key terms and relevant online resources.
