This comprehensive guide provides all the skills necessary for effectively installing and administering the Oracle Solaris 11.1 operating system in production settings. It includes numerous step-by-step procedures that demonstrate how to implement complex solutions in real-world data center environments. Authored by Bill Calkins, who has over twenty years of experience with Oracle Solaris, the book details every topic covered in the 1Z0-821 exam and many from the 1Z0-822 exam. Calkins also addresses the changes system administrators will encounter when upgrading to Solaris 11.1, offering new methods for familiar tasks on both SPARC and x86 hardware. Key topics include installing the Solaris 11 Operating Environment with various installers, managing software with the Image Packaging System, customizing and troubleshooting boot processes, and administering services through the service management facility. The guide also covers configuring ZFS storage pools and file systems, managing zones, using RBAC for custom rights profiles, and configuring Solaris networking. A companion website offers additional study strategies and self-assessment exams for the 1Z0-821 and 1Z0-822 certifications.
