Over the past 15 years, the authors have collaborated with various firms to analyze and redesign production and inventory control systems, aiming to reduce inventory and costs, enhance delivery performance, and simplify organizational structures. Through their work, they found that existing knowledge on control system design often focuses too heavily on techniques and methods, neglecting the importance of establishing a proper control structure. This structure should clearly define key decision functions, their objectives, relationships, and the organizational roles assigned to them. For each function, a comprehensive planning and decision-making procedure is necessary. The book provides a detailed overview of effective production control structures, exploring different approaches and guiding readers on selecting an appropriate structure for specific production contexts. It is divided into two parts: the first covers fundamental concepts related to the design of production and inventory control systems, while the second presents four case studies from diverse production sectors.
