Veselé i smutné príbehy siroty Anny, ktorú si adoptujú dvaja prostí vidiečania - súrodenci Marilla a Matej Cuthbertovci. Temperamentná Anna s bohatou fantáziou a predstavivosťou spôsobí Marille a Matejovi spočiatku veľa starostí svojimi neuvedomelými výčinmi, no napokon majú z nej radosť, ich život dostane nový zmysel a čoskoro si ho už bez Anny ani nevedia predstaviť.
Ich šťastie a šťastie všetkých nás by totiž malo spočívať nie vo veľkom bohatstve a v nedosiahnuteľných ambíciách, ale v splení malých radostí, jednoduchých túžob, v obšťastňovaní druhých, v pomáhaní tým, ktorí to najviac potrebujú...

Príbehy z Avonlea, blízkeho Carmody, Graftonu a White Sands, v ktorých vystupuje Anna a mnoho ďalších hrdinov.
Anna prijala miesto riaditeľky strednej školy v meste Summerside a našla si ubytovanie u dvoch starších vdov a ich gazdinej. Spočiatku musela bojovať s nepriazňou mesta a klanom rodiny Pringlovcov, a keďže deti Pringlovcov tvorili väčšinu Anniných žiakov, nedarilo sa jej prekonať ich odpor a protivenstvá ani zvyčajnou láskavosťou a ústretovosťou. Autorka doň povkladala množstvo kratších individuálnych príbehov a zaujímavých osudov nových hrdinov, do ktorých Anna spôsobom sebe vlastným priamo či nepriamo zasahuje.
Na začiatku tohto románu Anna pobudne zopár nádherných dní u Marilly v Zelenom dome so svojou najmilšou priateľkou Dianou. Potom ju už doma čakajú jej lásky – jej päť ratolestí. Prežíva s nimi ich malé dobrodružstvá, keď si nájdu podobné milé zákutia ako ona kedysi v Avonlea a s pochopením rieši všetky ich detské boliestky.
Tie sa spriatelia so štyrmi deťmi pastora, ktorému zomrela žena a on sa o deti nevie dobre postarať. A čitateľ si vychutná nádherné opisy prírody a malé, no pôvabné dobrodružstvá tohto detského sveta.

Pat of Silver Bush (1933) is a novel written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, noted for her Anne of Green Gables series. The protagonist, Patricia Gardiner (called Pat), hates change of any kind and loves her home, Silver Bush, more than anything else in the world. She is very devoted to her family: her father and mother, her brothers Joe and Sid, and her sisters Winnie and Rachel (who everyone in the family calls Cuddles). The book begins when Pat is 7 years old and ends when she is 18. Throughout the text, various members of Pat's family are lost from Silver Bush (Aunt Hazel to marriage, Joe to life as a sailor, and Winnie to marriage). Pat is sustained through these losses due to her enduring love for her home. She is "unlike other children" and has few close friends. She maintains a strong friendship with Hilary "Jingle" Gordon, and later befriends Elizabeth "Bets" Wilcox, who eventually dies of the flu. Like most of Montgomery's texts, Pat is a domestic tale. Unlike Anne Shirley or Emily Starr, the only other Montgomery heroines whose stories are told in multiple texts, Pat is not ambitious nor a writer. She also has a conventional family and home life, unlike the others, who are orphans. The book's sequel, Mistress Pat, describes her later years.

A young April wind, as fresh and sweet as if it had been blowing over the fields of memory instead of through dingy streets, was purring in the tree-tops and whipping the loose tendrils of the ivy network which covered the front of the main building. It was a wind that sang of many things, but what it sang to each listener was only what was in that listener's heart. To the college students who had just been capped and diplomad by "Old Charlie," the grave president of Queenslea, in the presence of an admiring throng of parents and sisters, sweethearts and friends, it sang, perchance, of glad hope and shining success and high achievement. It sang of the dreams of youth that may never be quite fulfilled, but are well worth the dreaming for all that. God help the man who has never known such dreams-who, as he leaves his alma mater, is not already rich in aerial castles, the proprietor of many a spacious estate in Spain. He has missed his birthright.

Anne (with an ‘e’ of course) starts out as a mistake. The elderly Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert had planned on adopting a boy to help Matthew with the chores on their Prince Edward Island farm. What are they to do with the red-haired, high-spirited girl who arrives instead?Anne Shirley, with her boundless imagination and heart, slowly brings joy into the narrow lives of those around her, and into the lives of readers who have delighted in her adventures since Lucy Maud Montgomery began writing about her in 1905.Anne’s courage, her enthusiasm, and her ability to love, have made her one of literature’s most beloved characters in Canada and around the world. This beautifully illustrated volume, with a foreword by Kate Butler MacDonald, one of L. M. Montgomery’s grandchildren, is a treasure for those who find in Anne a familiar friend as well as for those who are discovering this “kindred spirit” for the first time.
