A to je jen rozjezd. Uplynul už rok od zastavení mimozemské invaze a první americký superhrdinský tým zase už zaplňuje pouze stránky bulváru. Kdo se rozvedl, kdo se oženil, kdo s kým chodí, kdo se zbláznil, prostě nic extra zajímavého – aspoň do chvíle, než se provalí, že Hulk, který zničil polovinu New Yorku, je ve skutečnosti člen Ultimates Bruce Banner… a brzo taky prvním superhrdinou, který dostane trest smrti. A to je jen začátek problémů.

Američané mají superhrdiny. To si Rusko, Čína a Blízký Východ nemůžou nechat líbit. A tak se objevuje konkurence týmu Ultimates, která má jediný cíl. Pokořit Ameriku. Pokořit své protivníky. A jelikož je Hulk mrtvý, Iron Man se žení, Thor je na cestě do blázince, Captain America obviněný ze zrady, většina ostatních superhrdinů za mřížemi nebo mrtvá, tak se zdá, že je se světem konec. Finále druhé sezóny Ultimates je monumentální tak, že vedle něj vypadají filmy Rolanda Emmericha jako komorní ibsenovská dramata.

Jeden z největších fenoménů poslední doby – historie Marvelu vzatá pěkně od začátku, moderně… a také dost drsně. Komiks míchá cool scény a monumentální souboje s temnou a cynickou vizí nejslavnějších superhrdinů světa. V první knize se hrdinové střetli se svým vlastním kolegou, v druhé už konečně přichází to, co tak potřebovali – protivníci. Na Zemi zaútočí mimozemská rasa – a do týmu přichází noví členové: Bleskový Quicksilver a magická Scarlet Witch (jejichž vztah není zřejmě jen sourozenecký), střelec Hawkey a tajemná Black Widow.

Následkem tragické nehody způsobené nezkušeným týmem rádoby superhrdinů se zvažuje zavedení zákona o registraci superhrdinů, který by veškerým bojovníkům v kostýmu nařizoval odmaskovat se a spolupracovat s vládou. Někteří hrdinové nařízení vítají (Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Ant-Man nebocelá organizace S.H.I.E.L.D.), jiní ho považují za odpornost (Captain Amerika, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Falcon). Společenství superlidí je rozděleno rozhodováním o svém osudu - ustanovují se dvě soupeřící strany a někdejší přátele se tvrdě střetávají a vyřizují si mezi sebou nejen osobní spory, ale i křivdy z minulosti. A i záporáci cítí, že přišla jejich chvíle, jak se pomstí superhrdinům. Tento komiks navždy změnil svět Marvelu.

Po prvním díle může přijít jediná věc. Týmovka. David Lizewski, puberťák s téměř nulovým bojovým výcvikem a superhrdinským kostýmem, se v minulé knize pustil (po boku ještě mladší Zabíjačky) do mafie... a vyhrál. Stal se celebritou a najednou chce být každý superhrdina. Další logický krok pro Lizewského alias Nářeza? Stát se členem superhrdinského týmu. Jenže druhá strana má ten samý nápad. Nářezův bývalý parťák Zuřivec dává do kupy tým psychopatů, aby rozpoutali krvavou lázeň a zničili všechno, co je Nářezovi drahé. Jaká bude cena za hrdinství? Zatraceně vysoká.
