Cestopisná novela Francisa Bacona, napísaná pravdepodobne v r. 1623 a publikovaná až r. 1627, sa považuje za jednu z prvých vedecko-fantastických utópií. Jej význam je porovnateľný s dielo Thomasa Mora a Tommasa Campanellu. Bacon inšpiroval mnohých mysliteľov, vrátane Hobbesa, Newtona a Jeffersona. W. Rowley, autorov priateľ a kaplán, ju charakterizuje ako príbeh o akadémii, ktorá sa zameriava na vytváranie diel pre blaho ľudí. Dej sa odohráva v Baconových časoch, avšak prehodnocuje Platónovo vnímanie Atlantídy a integruje klasické, biblické a kresťanské prvky. Utopistická spoločnosť na ostrove Bensalem žije v mieri a dobročinnosti, pričom Baconova idea Veľkého obrodenia sa prezentuje prostredníctvom symboliky. Nové organon čili Správný návod, jak vykládat přírodu od anglického filosofa, právníka a politika je realizací druhé části Velkého obnovení věd, v němž Bacon rozpracoval plán na přestavbu vědy. Vlastnímu textu předchází stručný výklad Baconova života a díla, přehled jeho filosofických spisů a studie o Baconovi a novověké přírodovědě. Úvodní studii napsali Miroslav Zůna a Milan Sobotka.

Svazek obsahuje jednak utopické dílko (Nová Atlantida, 1627) anglického renesančního filozofa a státníka o smyšlené ostrovní říši šťastných a spokojených lidí, kteří všestranným využitím vědy a techniky, ale i pěstováním umění a dovedností dosáhli vysoké životní úrovně a vlády nad přírodou, a jednak výbor z jeho esejistické tvorby, podávající obraz myšlení renesančního člověka o smyslu života a vztahu k lidem apod.

V čele státu stojí svrchovaný vládce, nejmoudřejší člověk ve státě, jemuž jsou podřízeni Láska, Moc a Moudrost. Praktickyvšechny činnosti ve státě jsou řízeny a kontrolovány politickou mocí, která je výrazně propojená s náboženstvím.
