Vdova žijící v chaloupce u lesa má dvě dcery, Bělinku a Růženku. Dívky se toulají lesem, starají se o domácnost; pod oknem roste keř bílých růží a keř rudých růží. Jednoho dne se objeví medvěd mluvící lidský hlasem a prosí o pohostinství. Následujícího roku se děvčátka setkajítaké se zlým, nerudným trpaslíkem, který medvěda zaklel. Při čtvrtém setkání s trpaslíkem se medvěd objeví, zlomí prokletí a promění se v krásného prince, který pak dívky odvede na svůj zámek.

"Snow White" is a German fairy tale known across much of Europe and is today one of the most famous fairy tales worldwide. At the beginning of the story, a queen sits sewing at an open window during a winter snowfall when she pricks her finger with her needle, causing three drops of red blood to drip onto the freshly fallen white snow on the black windowsill. Admiring the beauty of the resulting color combination, she says to herself, "Oh how I wish that I had a daughter that had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony".
