The story follows Liz Miller, a struggling Ph.D. candidate who becomes homeless after her boyfriend leaves her. Couch-surfing at her best friend's place, she discovers a life-changing Craigslist ad for a room in a Greenwich Village apartment, where the tenant must read aloud to the sight-impaired landlady, Anne Taussig Weil. As Liz navigates this unexpected arrangement, she uncovers Weil's past and the connection to her own academic goals, revealing a complex tale of love and ambition intertwined with literary history.
