Na světě existuje asi jen několik kníh, které jsou tak známé jako Skauting pro chlapce. Tato Baden-Powellova kniha spustila v roce 1908 lavinu, která se valí dodnes. Po prvním vydání se z ní okamžitě stal nejprodávanější trhák a nejčtenější titul anglických chlapců a děvčat. Díky jejich nadšení se zrodilo skautské hnutí. Příručka Scouting for Boys začala vycházet v lednu 1908 v sešitech. V květnu pak vyšlo první kompletní knižní vydání. Každý rok pak vycházela další vydání, tak obrovský byl o ní zájem a „skautská bible“ začala být překládána i do jiných jazyků. Tato kniha je historickým pokladem, který nabízí pohled na skauting v čase jeho vzniku v roce 1908. Její poselství ale i mnohé části jsou atraktivní dodnes a aktuální natrvalo.

Na jednej strane je Skauting pre chlapcov „outdoorovou' príručkou s praktickou inštruktážou stopárstva, zapaľovania ohňov či viazania uzlov.
