Kniha významného nemeckého znalca rímskeho práva a právneho teoretika 19. storočia Rudolfa von Iheringa (1818 – 1892), ktorá je rozšírenou podobou jeho prednášky vo Viedni v roku 1872, bola svojho času jedným z mála bestsellerov v rámci právnickej literatúry. Jej preklady obleteli svet v dovtedy nepoznaných nákladoch a opakovaných vydaniach. Podľa Iheringa právo nie je pojem, ale živá sila: právo vníma ako výsledok boja, ktorý pramení v ľudskom egoizme. Ihering sa snaží dokázať, že každý človek je v boji za vlastné právo súčasne bojovníkom za právo v záujme spoločnosti. Boj za právo je apel na právne cítenie, má pomôcť človeku uvedomiť si vlastné postavenie nositeľa subjektívnych práv pri obrane svojich legitímnych záujmov v rovine vymáhania práva. Dielko je napísané jasným a prístupným jazykom a štýlom, je adresované nielen odbornej právnickej verejnosti a po prvý raz vychádza v slovenskom preklade.

Jheringův „Boj o právo“ patří mezi nejpřekládanější, nejčtenější a myšlenkově nejvlivnější díla evropské právní historie. Český překlad z roku 1897 zpřístupňuje Jheringovo myšlen kové bohatství osobitě krásným jazykem, jenž ani s odstupem století nic neztratil na své vznešenosti a působivosti. V knize „Jurisprudence každodenního života“ pak Jhering skicuje množství životních situací, načež s obrovskou bravurou nabízí čtenáři „nekonečnou“ řadu právních konotací, s nimiž jsou nebo mohou být tyto situace spjaty. Je brilantním fabulátorem sepětí práva a běžného života.

First published in German in 1872 as Der Kampf ums Recht, the work attracted wide attention and was reissued in several revised editions and translated into a dozen foreign languages. The author was a renowned scholar of Roman law who wrote in a lively style. One legal historian called him "the Mark Twain of German jurisprudence." In this essay he discusses what the law is and how the law changes. It is a classic in the perennial struggle to make the law a means for achieving social change.
