Jedná se o nejdůležitější spis Bahá’u’lláha, Zakladatele nejmladšího monoteistického světového náboženství – Bahá’í Víry. Z rozsáhlého souboru Bahá’í Písma je právě tato Kniha tou nejvýznamnější a lze ji právem považovat za nejskvělejší plod Bahá’u’lláhovy mysli.Bahá’í věřící považují Bahá’u’lláhovy spisy za Slovo Boží, podobně jako jím je Tóra pro židy, Bible pro křesťany či Korán pro muslimy.Bahá’u’lláh napsal tuto Knihu vlastní rukou v arabštině kolem roku 1873 v době Svého vyhnanství v ‘Akká ve Svaté zemi. Kniha obsahuje základní zákony, přikázání a zásady Bahá’í Víry. Představuje Chartu Bahá’u’lláhova nového Světového řádu a Chartu budoucí světové civilizace. Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh is a compilation of selected tablets and extracts from tablets by Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of the Bahá'í Faith. Shoghi Effendi, head of the Bahá'í Faith from 1921 to 1957, made the selection and performed the translation, which was first published 1935. The work consists of "a selection of the most characteristic and hitherto unpublished passages includes from the outstanding works of the Author of the Bahá'í Revelation," according to Shoghi Effendi.[1] The passages come from the whole range of Bahá'u'lláh's writings, dated from about 1853 to 1892.
