      Při letmém pohledu na titulní stránku svých oblíbených novin 21. srpna 1968 běžný čtenář sovětské Pravdy patrně přeskočil tak důvěrně mu známé heslo „Proletáři všech zemí, spojte se!“ v hlavičce listu, ale zpráva, která znenadání přidala tomuto heslu na žhavé aktuálnosti, mu rozhodně uniknout nemohla: „TASS je zplnomocněn prohlásit,“ sdělovalo oficiální komuniké typicky sovětským newspeakem, „že straničtí a vládní činitelé Československé socialistické republiky se obrátili na Sovětský svaz a další spojenecké vlády s prosbou o poskytnutí neodkladné pomoci našemu bratrskému lidu Československa, včetně pomoci ozbrojenými silami. Tato žádost byla vznesena, protože existující socialistický řád a ústavou dané právní uspořádání v Československu jsou ohroženy kontrarevolučními silami, které se spolčily s vnějšími silami nepřátelskými socialismu.“ O nějakých třicet pět let později se na ohlasové stránce jiných novin — jejichž světonázorová orientace je v tom nejpříkřejším rozporu s tou, k níž se kdysi hlásila stará dobrá Pravda — objevil dopis, který si svým tónem morálního povýšenectví a agresivity s tím prvním nikterak nezadal. 30. ledna 2003 jej s podpisy osmi evropských státníků otiskl The Wall Street Journal pod titulem „United We Stand“ („Jsme sjednoceni“).
