Devatenácté století dospívá do poloviny, Coltův revolver je zbrojířská novinka. Maurice jím zprvu v souboji obhájil svou čest, ale k záchraně života potřebuje mnohem víc než pouhou zbraň. Spravedlnosti pomáhá nakonec sám Bezhlavý jezdec. Bezhlavý jezdec je westernový příběh s detektivní zápletkou. Dcera bohatého plantážníka se zamiluje do lovce mustangů. Jejich lásce však nepřeje plantážníkův synovec, který si chce svoji sestřenici vzít za manželku. Jednoho dne si s lovcem mustangů vyjede na koních plantážníkův syn. Domů se však vrátí jen jeho kůň a mladý plantážník není k nalezení. Zmizí však i lovec mustangů. Místo těchto dvou se však objeví bezhlavý jezdec, který jezdí na svém koni s hlavou v podpaždí. Samozřejmně se vyřeží obě záhady, jak zmizení obou mužů tak i existence bezhlavého jezdce.
