Slávny britský humorista Saki, vlastným menom Hector Hugh Munro, sa narodil 18. decembra 1870 v Barme. Pseudonym Saki si zvolil inšpirovaný zbierkou epigramov perzského básnika Omara Chajjáma. Vo svojej tvorbe vtipne glosuje predvojnové obdobie a pomery v Anglicku, kritizuje snobstvo a pokrytectvo vyššej vrstvy, rebeluje proti tvrdohlavým autoritám prostredníctvom postáv ako Reginald a Clovis. Jeho poviedky majú často autobiografický charakter. Anglický spisovateľ Graham Greene poznamenal, že "najlepšie Munroove poviedky sú o detstve, detskom humore a anarchii, ako aj krutosti a biede života". Saki zomrel predčasne v novembri 1916 v zákopoch prvej svetovej vojny.
