Focusing on the origins and evolution of Chinese Trotskyism, this study highlights its significant role as a dissenting force within the Chinese Communist Party from 1921 to 1952. It examines the contributions of key figures like Chen Duxiu, whose revolutionary ideas resonated with Chinese youth and influenced movements, including the pivotal events of 1989. The analysis delves into the ideological and historical context that shaped this unique opposition within the CCP leading up to the party's ascension to power in 1949.

Focusing on the involvement of overseas Chinese, this book explores their roles in labor and social-revolutionary movements, as well as internationalism. It draws from a diverse array of source materials and features seven distinct case studies, providing a comprehensive look at how these communities contributed to broader social changes and movements across different contexts.
