This book is designed to help teachers to overcome some of the constraints put on them by politicians, and to improve the conditions in schools. It presents strategies for presenting the case for greater funding and staffing in schools, but also suggests ways in which teachers can improve life in schools under existing conditions.

Schools tend to focus on improving schools or remaking them anew rather than sustaining what has been created by past leaders. Similarly, leaders rarely think about how the improvements they make will survive their own departure. In this book, the authors examine what we know about making leadership last in schools.
