Andrew Johnson

    Andrew Johnson bol 17. prezidentom Spojených štátov, ktorý slúžil v rokoch 1865 až 1869. Johnson sa stal prezidentom po atentáte na prezidenta Abrahama Lincolna, pri ktorom bol viceprezidentom. Ako demokrat, ktorý kandidoval s Lincolnom na lístku Národnej únie, Johnson nastúpil do úradu na konci občianskej vojny. Nový prezident uprednostňoval rýchle obnovenie odtrhnutých štátov do Únie. Jeho plány neposkytovali ochranu bývalým otrokom a dostal sa do konfliktu s Republikánmi ovládaným Kongresom, čo vyvrcholilo jeho impeachmentom Snemovňou reprezentantov. Ako prvý americký prezident, ktorý bol impeachmentovaný, bol v Senáte oslobodený spod obžaloby jedným hlasom.
