En los mares del norte de Escocia reina una sirena a la que todos temen menos Eric. Sus nietos, Anna y Jon, quieren mucho a su abuelo. La sirena se venga de Eric y de todos los habitantes de la aldea y Eric tiene que irse del pueblo. Se enrola en un barco y desde los lugares más remotos envía regalos a la familia. A Jon le regala una caracola y a Anna una peineta de jade. La caracola tiene la propiedad de que al tocarla tres veces aparece la sirena. Esta se encapricha de la peineta de Anna y como la niña se niega a dársela, la sirena se venga en todos los pescadores de la aldea alejando la pesca de sus redes. Pero Jon y Anna encuentran la manera de burlar a la sirena.
