Použití filtrů představovalo vždy určitý předěl oddělující běžné fotografy od těch zasvěcených. S příchodem digitální fotografie a zpracováním snímků na počítači se použití filtrů před objektivem sice poněkud omezilo, ale některé z nich jsou i v době digitálních efektů nezastupitelné.
