Dej sa odohráva v Petrohrade v druhej polovici 19. storočia. Hlavný hrdina, študent Rodion Romanovič Raskolnikov je veľmi chudobný a práve z nedostatku peňazí je nútený odísť zo štúdia. Ve vypolstrovaných celách i neosvětlených kobkách zuřili, plánovali, a snili o okamžiku, kdy se jim podaří dobýt a svrhnout svět rozumu.Ten okamžik přišel. Je prvního dubna a šílenci ovládli ústav. Pod Jokerovým vedením připravili smrtící hru pro člověka, který může za jejich uvěznění. Pro Batmana. V souboji se svými největšími protivníky musí Batman sestoupit až do samého srdce temnoty a postavit se svým největším obavám……nebo se stát další šílencem zavřeným v Arkhamu.
