Der Manga 'Appleseed' ist benannt nach dem amerikanischen Modellpionier und-Erfinder Jonny Appleseed, sowie nach Menschen, die ihm nacheifern. Es sind Leute, die versuchen, sich eine neue Welt zu erschaffen, um im Cyber Age zu überleben.

Die junge Seska gehört dem Foo-Zay-Clan an und verdient sich ihren Lebensunterhalt damit, sich als Magierin anheuern zu lassen. Eines Tages, als sie sich wieder einmal in der Hauptstadt aufhält, soll sie plötzlich von der imperialen Polizei verhaftet werden. Sie kann aber entkommen und zum Tempel ihres Vaters, Meister Fuzen, flüchten. Auch dort wartet schon die Polizei.
