Catherine ošetruje raneného Henryho a ich láska sa naplní, Catherine čaká dieťa. Henry sa vracia na front, ale čoraz väčšmi presvedčený o nezmyselnosti vojny rozhodne sa aj so svojou láskou ujsť. Rozum a cit je jedným z najznámejších románov anglickej literatúry a prvou vydanou knihou Jane Austenovej. Citovo založená Marianna sa dokáže spontánne a vášnivo poddať emóciám, zatiaľ čo rezervovanejšia Elinor sa snaží svoje city skrývať, aby neobťažovala svoje okolie. Obidve musia svoje postoje časom pod vplyvom udalostí zmeniť.
