Jeden z najčítanejších svetových románov, ktorý šokoval kritikou mravov vyšších vrstiev. Slávny román Nebezpečné známosti francúzskeho spisovateľa Choderlosa de Laclosa z roku 1782 už viac ako dve storočia ohuruje čitateľov príbehom rafinovane predstieranej lásky, ktorá je iba vypočítavou a krutou hrou. Román v čase svojho vznikušokoval otvorenou kritikou mravov a vzťahov vyšších spoločenských vrstiev. Autor v takmer 200 listoch rozpráva príbeh dvoch libertínskych šľachticov – markízy de Merteuil a vikomta de Valmont, ktorí rozdúchavajú city svojich obetí, z pomsty alebo iba pre zábavu ich vťahujú do svojich nemilosrdných hier a vzápätí ich odvrhnú. Korením príbehu sú ich neuveriteľne vykalkulované stratégie, aristokratický cynizmus, ale aj veľmi trefná analýza mätúcich citov, ktorá nakoniec zničí aj oboch konšpirátorov lásky. Jeden z najčítanejších svetových románov pravidelne láka aj filmárov. Po Vadimovej adaptácii s Jeanne Moreau a Gérardom Philipom v hlavných úlohách nakrútil Miloš Forman oceňovaný film Valmont ako mierne komediálnu interpretáciu s Annette Beningovou a Colinom Firthom v hlavných úlohách. Režisér Roger Kumble zase zasadil dej do 20. storočia a obsadil mladé hviezdy Ryana Phillippeho, Sarah Michelle Gellarovú či Reese Witherspoonovú.

Un Jeune marin à peine sorti d'une adolescence rêveuse fait escale à Valparaiso vers la fin des années cinquante. Port mythique, vénéré par les marins du monde entier, célèbre pour ses légendes, ses chansons, sa proximité relative avec le cap Horn, ses navires, ses escaliers entremêlés, ses ruelles labyrinthes, ses ascenseurs rouillés, ses bordels crasseux, la ville est aussi une sorte de piège, un bout du monde où l'exil et l'esprit d'aventure sont poussés à l'extrême, une expérience à sens unique dont on ne ressort pas indemne. A quai ou agrippé à l'échine des vagues, le héros de ce roman laisse derrière lui de formidables moments de vie, un sillage grouillant et étourdissant, une porte ouverte sur l'univers des sens. Il ne reste plus an lecteur qu'à s'embarquer pour partager cette course des tropiques.
