Thaddeus Kosciuszko, born in 1746 in Poland-Lithuania, emerged as a pivotal figure in modern history. After fleeing his homeland due to a death sentence for courting a woman above his station, he arrived in America just after the Declaration of Independence, landing on Benjamin Franklin's doorstep with a revolutionary spirit and engineering talent.
