Stalo sa to v zapadnutej dedinke Holcomb v Kansase, kde dvaja muži, Smith a Hickock, zavraždili farmára s manželkou a dvomi malými deťmi.

V obchode s diamantmi a náprsnými taškami z krokodílej kože, obklopený pyšným ovzduším a všadeprítomnou vôňou striebra? Na túto otázku vám odpovie úspešná novela Trumana Capota, rozprávajúca príbeh nevšednej mladej ženy, utešenej Holly Golightly, pestrej figúrky kaviarní, podsvetia, newyorskej smotánky a hollywoodskych hviezdičiek. Jej kvetnatá osobnosť pohltila Ameriku natoľko, že na základe knihy vznikol kultový film s Audrey Hepburn v hlavnej úlohe.

      Raňajky u Tiffanyho
    • Selected from across Capote's writing life, the stories range from nostalgic portraits of childhood to more unsettling works that reveal the darkness beneath the festive glitter. In the Deep South of Capote's youth, a young boy, Buddy, and his beloved maiden 'aunt' Sook forage for pecans and whisky to bake into fruitcakes, make kites - too broke to buy gifts - and rise before dawn to prepare feasts for a ragged assembly of guests; it is Sook who teaches Buddy the true meaning of goodwill. In other stories, an unlikely festive miracle, of sorts, occurs at a local drugstore; an eccentric young girl dreams of Hollywood; and a lonely woman has a troubling encounter in wintry New York. Brimming with feeling, these sparkling tales convey both the wonder and the chill of Christmas time.

Passionate, perceptive and eloquent, the short stories of Truman Capote are among the greatest works of twentieth century American fiction. This new collection gathers them all together for the first time: from early, eerie Southern Gothic tales such as 'Miriam' and 'The Headless Hawk', to the brilliantly evocative 'Children On Their Birthdays' and the tenderly autobiographical 'A Christmas Memory' - an affectionate portrayal of Capote's own Alabama upbringing. Whether describing the Deep South of his childhood, or considering city life with the penetrating gaze of an outsider - as in 'Among the Paths to Eden' and the hitherto unpublished 'The Bargain' these stories rank among Capote's finest work: acutely observed tales from a unique and brilliant mind.

      The Complete Stories

    • Truman Capote’s first novel is a story of almost supernatural intensity and inventiveness, an audacious foray into the mind of a sensitive boy as he seeks out the grown-up enigmas of love and death in the ghostly landscape of the deep South. “Intense, brilliant . . . . Capote has an astonishing command . . . a magic all his own.” —The Atlantic At the age of twelve, Joel Knox is summoned to meet the father who abandoned him at birth. But when Joel arrives at the decaying mansion in Skully’s Landing, his father is nowhere in sight. What he finds instead is a sullen stepmother who delights in killing birds; an uncle with the face—and heart—of a debauched child; and a fearsome little girl named Idabel who may offer him the closest thing he has ever known to love.

A lost treasure only recently found, Truman Capote's Summer Crossing is a precocious, confident first novel from one of the twentieth century's greatest writers. Set in New York just after World War II, the story follows a young carefree socialite, Grady McNeil, whose parents leave her alone in their Fifth Avenue penthouse for the summer. Left to her own devices, Grady turns up the heat on the secret affair she's been having with a Brooklyn-born Jewish war veteran who works as a parking lot attendant. As the season passes, the romance turns more serious and morally ambiguous, and Grady must eventually make a series of decisions that will forever affect her life and the lives of everyone around her.

      Summer Crossing
    • Truman Capote's novella is set in 1940s New York City and highlights a unique form of female independence that was rare in the mid-20th century. The protagonist, Holly, lives life on her own terms, largely disregarding societal expectations. As a young woman who supports herself by associating with wealthy men, she faces relentless criticism for her lifestyle. To maintain her autonomy, Holly is even willing to break the law and flee to another country. This work gained immense popularity, particularly due to its film adaptation featuring Audrey Hepburn as Holiday Golightly, whose iconic dark glasses and black dress became fashion symbols. The narrative explores themes of independence, societal judgment, and the lengths one might go to preserve personal freedom.
