Ruth prežíva svoj pomerne úspešný život, ktorý je však dosť ovplyvnený komplikovaným detstvom bez otca a s matkou, ktorá nevie poriadne po anglicky, je dosť nesamostatná a vo všetkom sa spolieha na dcéru, takže si svoje komplexy menejcennosti a zlosť potom vylieva na jedinej dcére.
