Het taalgebruik is niet eenvoudig, de technische leesbaarheid is moeilijker dan de inhoud. Het boek is geschikt voor kinderen vanaf twaalf jaar en ook te lezen door volwassenen. Er zijn mooie illustraties in grijstinten van de dieren die in de mythes voorkomen. De inhoud van het boek is niet historisch verantwoord, maar ontspruit geheel aan de fantasie van de schrijver. Het boek is in het buitenland al voorgedragen voor een aantal prijzen. Naast spannend is het echter ook enigszins pretentieus. (Biblion recensie, Fred Koekoek)
