In the past decade, significant advancements have been made in the measurement of evoked potentials, enhancing our understanding of their characteristics, origins, and clinical utility. This multidisciplinary topic has seen contributions from various fields, with applications spanning multiple specialties. This work is a revised and updated version of presentations from the international evoked potential symposium held in Nottingham in 1978, which facilitated state-of-the-art discussions among experts from diverse disciplines and countries. Each major topic in the field is introduced by an expert review, setting the stage for the current research presented. The structure of the book reflects this format: chapters in Part A provide context for the research detailed in Part B. The selection of material was carefully curated by a distinguished committee of authors who chaired specialized sessions during the symposium. Acknowledgments are extended to Dr. F. W. Campbell, Professor S. J. Crews, Mr. W. P. R. Gibson, Professor G. F. A. Harding, Dr. D. A. Jeffreys, Dr. D. G. Small, Professor H. Spekreijse, Dr. A. Starr, Dr. A. R. D. Thornton, and Professor L. H. van der Tweel for their contributions to this comprehensive work.
