Napätie prerastie do rasových nepokojov, Halima ako lekárka v nemocnici rovnako ošetruje ranených z oboch táborov, vláda ju však za trest posiela pracovať na kliniku do malej dediny v oblasti zmietanej najostrejšími bojmi. Tam sa stáva svedkom nerovného boja medzi dobre vyzbrojenými Arabmi a čiernymi povstalcami, pomôcť však musí aj desiatkam dievčat v školskom veku, ktoré v škole znásilní horda ozbrojencov. Halima podá správu zástupcom Spojených národov, vzápätí po ňu prídu ozbrojení muži. Skutočnosť je ešte strašnejšia, než si predstavovala.

Halima Bashir was born in Sudan. She left to study medicine, & returned as her tribe's first qualified doctor. Janjaweed Arab militias began savagely assaulting her people. She treated the traumatised victims. After speaking to a Sudanese newspaper & to the UN charities, the secret police came for her, interrogating & torturing her.
