These readers aim to bridge the gap between natural spoken language and the language of books. Natural language and repeated sentence patterns have been used throughout. High quality illustrations identify the correct context assisting confidence and successful prediction. We have chosen high-interest subject material and have structured the text so that the child can make use of semantic and syntactic cues in the language which, in conjunction with the pictorial information, will provide a high level of prediction. Thus children are helped in the extension of their sight vocabulary. These books are suitable for use in the junior school and in the teaching of ESL students and other less experienced readers.
