Miklós Nyiszli Knihy

V roku 1944 obsadili nacisti Maďarsko a narýchlo sa pustili do masovej likvidácie židovského obyvateľstva. Väčšinu deportovali do vyhladzovacieho tábora v Osvienčime. Rovnaký osud postihol aj lekára Miklósa Nyiszliho. Za bránami koncentračného tábora sa ocitol ešte v apríli, kde sa hneď po príchode podrobil selekcii. Josef Mengele, dôstojník SS a lekár, vtedy vyzval tých, čo študovali na nemeckých univerzitách a majú znalosti z patológie a forenznej medicíny, aby vystúpili z radu. Z päťdesiatich prítomných lekárov tak učinil len jeden – Miklós Nyiszli. Tak sa začala jeho neuveriteľná cesta po boku sadistického doktora Mengeleho. Nyiszli sa stal členom Sonderkommanda, skupiny väzňov, ktorá pracovala v plynových komorách a v krematóriách a spravidla po štyroch mesiacoch tam sama končila. Nyiszliho poverili vykonávaním pitiev. Je zázrak, že ako očitý svedok Mengeleho zvrátených, sadistických experimentov, najmä na dvojčatách a ľuďoch postihnutých dwarfizmom, prežil. V tom období už nacisti zahladzovali všetky dôkazy. Nyiszli krátko po vojne ako jeden z prvých odhalil svetu všetky zverstvá, ktoré sa v táboroch diali, a to v čase, keď väčšina ľudí ešte zatvárala oči pred pravdou.

"I learned the history of the crematoria. Tens of thousands of prisoners had built them out of stone and concrete, Despite the harsh winter weather, deadlines had to be met. Every stone had been stained with the blood of unfortunate Jewish prisoners. Hungry and cold, dressed in rags, fed with pigs' swill, these wretches had worked day and night to build a terrible death factory that would later turn their bodies to ash on the gridirons they themselves had installed.... One early evening I was left alone with my dark thoughts. I suddenly heard a terrifying scream abruptly interrupted by a gunshot and then the heavy thud of a body hitting the ground. Less than a minute later there was another terrifying scream and another gunshot and the sound of a body collapsing on the floor. I counted seventy such horrifying mortal cries, seventy such shots and seventy falls.... I entered the room. After what I heard I braced myself to see something shocking, but the scene I now encountered surpassed all my imaginings..."
