Kniha Plameň je básnickým testamentom básnika a speváka Leonarda Cohena (1934–2016) a autor ju pripravoval s vedomím, že to bude posledná kniha, ktorou sa prihovorí svojim čitateľom. Cohen do nej zaradil najnovšie a nepublikované básne a texty piesní, ktoré doplnil výberom básnických a obrazových skíc zo svojich zápisníkov. Ústrednou témou v Cohenovej poézii ostáva až do konca demaskovanie charakteru človeka, v ktorom vidí základnú príčinu bolesti, strachu a nevynútenej tragiky.
