Cesta za hranice je príbehom rôznych putovaní. Začala rozprávaním dvoch dievčat z utečeneckého centra v Taliansku. Po našom stretnutí som si uvedomila silu ich príbehu. Začala som teda zbierať rozhovory o migrácií ľudí z rôznych krajín. Po niekoľkých mesiacoch štúdia som vedela, že chcem vytvoriť knihu o týchto pravdivých príbehoch. Takmer každý deň sa v správach hovorilo o utečencoch a migrantoch, ale len veľmi málo o ich osobných príbehoch a ceste, ktorú museli prejsť.
