Před mnoha lety Will Eisner marně hledal nakladatele pro své revoluční dílo, Smlouvu s Bohem. Komiksový román nakonec vyšel dosti nenápadně v roce 1978 a až později si získal obrovský věhlas, takže přinesl uspokojení nejen samotnému autorovi, ale také se stal inspirací pro celou generaci „sekvenčních umělců“.
